Rep. Taa Wongbe Marks 47th Birthday With Development Push in Nimba’s District 9
GRAIE, Nimba County — While many people mark birthdays with private celebrations, Representative Taa Z. Wongbe turned his 47th birthday into a day of grassroots engagement, development action and renewed commitment to the people of Electoral District 9, drawing citizens and partners into what many described as a “birthday with purpose.”
The day unfolded as a convergence of gratitude and planning, bringing together farmers, women’s groups, youth, traditional leaders and international partners across several communities in the district.
Agriculture anchors district vision
As part of his drive to position District 9 as a regional agricultural production hub in line with President Joseph N. Boakai’s ARREST Agenda, Wongbe led a high-level assessment tour through Zekepa, Guoiton, Blamein, Mehnla and Graie.
During engagements with farmers, cooperatives and the District Agriculture Team, discussions focused on boosting productivity, strengthening value chains and expanding market access.

“Our people are farmers by tradition, but we must now farm with intention, technology and market strategy,” Wongbe said. “District 9 will not only feed Nimba, but contribute meaningfully to Liberia’s food security.”
The tour included members of the Green Rural Redevelopment Organization (GRRO) from North Carolina, signaling growing international interest in the district’s agricultural potential.
Development on the ground
Beyond consultations, Wongbe showcased ongoing development initiatives, beginning with a visit to his farm in Graie Township, highlighting his personal investment in agriculture.
The delegation also toured the Maternal Waiting Home under construction at the Graie Clinic, a project aimed at improving maternal and newborn health outcomes in rural communities.
At the Volay Public School, now about 85 percent complete, Wongbe outlined plans to expand access to quality education. During the visit, Henry Crews of GRRO donated assorted educational materials to students, reinforcing collaboration between local leadership and international partners.
Grassroots tributes and unity
Across the district, residents shared tributes via Radio Voice of Yarwin Mehnsonnoh 99.1 FM, with women’s groups, market women, farmers and youth organizations praising Wongbe’s people-centered leadership and tangible development initiatives.
In Graie Township, the Motorcycle Union surprised the lawmaker with agricultural projects in his honor — a gesture elders described as symbolic of unity and progress, especially in light of Wongbe’s earlier support to the unions with building materials for their parking facilities.
Message of gratitude
In a message shared on social media, Wongbe thanked residents and partners for the outpouring of support.
“Yesterday was truly special. I spent the day at home with my people in District 9, celebrating with so much love,” he wrote, describing the overwhelming generosity from residents.
He also expressed appreciation to the GRRO delegation and individual partners who joined him in the district to assess opportunities for agriculture and rural development.
“Grateful. Humbled. Thank you,” Wongbe added.
A milestone beyond celebration
More than a personal celebration, Wongbe’s 47th birthday emerged as a development milestone for Electoral District 9 — underscoring a leadership style that blends gratitude with governance, symbolism with strategy, and personal moments with public purpose.
