MONROVIA, Liberia – Framing it as a policy roadmap rather than a ceremonial address, former Unity Party Chairman Chelle Noring says President Joseph Nyumah Boakai’s third State of the Nation Address (SONA) signals a governance agenda anchored on fiscal discipline, institutional reform, and inclusive economic growth.
Noring described the address, delivered Monday, January 26 in fulfillment of the President’s constitutional mandate, as a clear indication that Liberia is pursuing a path of renewal and results-based leadership. He commended President Boakai for what he termed steady and principled leadership focused on national transformation.
According to him, the President’s message reflected a government prioritizing measurable outcomes over political distractions, with impacts increasingly visible in the lives of ordinary Liberians.
Among the key highlights, Noring pointed to progress in stabilizing the economy and restoring confidence in public governance. He said fiscal discipline has strengthened under Boakai’s leadership, wasteful spending has been reduced, and public resources are being redirected to priority sectors that directly affect citizens.
He added that these reforms are laying the foundation for sustained growth and renewed investor confidence.
Noring also welcomed the President’s emphasis on job creation and youth empowerment, describing it as timely and reassuring. Through targeted public works, support to agriculture and small businesses, and youth-centered initiatives, he noted, thousands of Liberians are finding opportunities to earn a dignified living.
He said this approach aligns with the Unity Party’s long-standing belief that development must be people-centered and inclusive.
The former chairman further praised ongoing infrastructure investments, including road rehabilitation and expanded access to electricity and basic services, noting that such projects are gradually easing constraints on commerce, mobility, and rural development.
“These investments are not just physical structures; they are foundations for national unity and economic expansion,” Noring asserted.
He also lauded the President’s renewed commitment to good governance, the rule of law, and the fight against corruption. Boakai’s call for stronger institutions, accountability, and inter-branch cooperation, he said, reflects a determination to rebuild trust between the state and its citizens.
Noring observed that Liberia’s rising profile in regional and international affairs points to growing global confidence in the country’s leadership.
He said the President’s tone of humility and appeal for national unity stood out, as Boakai urged Liberians across political lines to place country above self.
Concluding, Chairman Emeritus Chelle Noring said the Unity Party remains proud of President Boakai’s leadership and vision, adding that the third SONA confirms Liberia is moving forward deliberately, responsibly, and with citizens at the center of governance.
