Monrovia – The Inspector General of the Liberia National Police, Gregory O. W. Coleman, says an investigation involving Sam Jackson remains ongoing, confirming that he has now been classified as a suspect and is currently being held at the police headquarters in Monrovia.
Speaking to reporters Saturday evening, Coleman explained that Jackson was initially invited by the police as a person of interest but developments in the investigation have led authorities to treat him as a suspect while further inquiries continue.
“Investigation is ongoing. Mr. Jackson was invited here today as a person of interest to this investigation,” Coleman stated. “As far as we are concerned, the investigation still continues. He is now a suspect and will be kept at the LNP headquarters while we continue the investigation.”
The police chief clarified that Jackson has not yet been formally charged, stressing that investigators are still gathering evidence before any charges can be filed.
Under Liberian law, the police have 48 hours to investigate and determine whether sufficient evidence exists to charge a suspect and present the individual before a court, Coleman noted. He assured the public that Jackson’s constitutional rights would be respected throughout the process.
“Mr. Jackson is not charged. We have 48 hours to investigate, come up with a charge, and present him to the nearest court,” Coleman said. “I can guarantee you his rights will be protected under the law, and within that mathematical calculation for legal detention, he will be presented to the court.”
Authorities also disclosed that two of Jackson’s employees were earlier taken into custody as part of the investigation. According to the police, one of the employees has since been released, while the other remains in detention to assist investigators with information related to the case.
The Liberia National Police said the probe remains active and urged the public to allow investigators to complete their work without interference. The police institution, which operates under the country’s Ministry of Justice, is responsible for investigating crimes and maintaining public order across the country.
Police say additional details about the case will be disclosed as the investigation progresses.
