Fact Check: Has the Asset Recovery Team Indicted Any Current Government Official?

On June 8, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Asset Recovery and Property Retrieval Task Force (AREPT), Joseph Daniels, claimed on the OK Morning Rush that the anti-graft institution has “indicted both former and current government officials”.

Daniels was responding to a caller who alleged that AREPT was only targeting officials from the previous administration and had not indicted any serving government officials since its establishment.

In response, Daniels cited Ms. Josephine Greaves, who he claimed served as Assistant Minister for Research, Policy, and Planning at the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, as an example of a current government official who had been indicted by AREPT.

The Claim

Joseph Daniels stated: “The Assistant Minister for Research, Policy and Planning at the Ministry of Gender… her name is Josephine Greaves. So she was indicted by the Task Force and was suspended by the President.”

Our findings show that President Joseph Nyuma Boakai appointed Ms. Josephine Greaves as Assistant Minister for Research, Policy, and Planning at the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection on October 27, 2025.

We then reviewed records relating to indictments announced by AREPT.

Our review found that Ms. Greaves was among seven past and current government officials indicted by the Grand Jury in connection with the alleged diversion of approximately US$1.82 million from the Rural Women’s Fund. Reports indicate that the indictment was announced on April 9, 2026.
