MONROVIA – Alternative National Congress political leader Alexander B. Cummings will serve as keynote speaker at the Congress for Democratic Change’s 22nd anniversary and Militant Month celebration in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County, headlining a gathering the party is casting as a national forum on the country’s democratic future.
The invitation, signed by CDC National Chairman Atty. Janga A. Kowo, dated June 15, asks Cummings to deliver the keynote address on Saturday, June 27, the closing day of the celebration, which runs from June 23 to 27. The event carries the theme “ZWEDRU RISES: 2029 VICTORY IS THE FINAL DESTINATION.”
Cummings is expected to share the platform with a cross-section of the country’s opposition figures. Citizens’ Movement for Change political leader Musa H. Bility, Cllr. Kabineh Ja’neh, a businessman and politician, and Benoni Urey are among the opposition leaders expected to attend, alongside legislators, former public officials, civil society organizations, and traditional authorities.
In its letter, the CDC said this year’s celebration had been redesigned as a national political renewal and policy dialogue intended to promote reflection, accountability and democratic engagement, a departure from the rallies that have marked previous anniversaries. The party said the program would bring together political leaders, members of the diplomatic and international community, youth and women’s leaders, and democratic stakeholders from across Liberia.
The framing comes at a moment the party described as one of growing public unease over national governance, economic hardship, and declining confidence in state institutions. The CDC said opposition leaders bear a responsibility to engage one another and the Liberian people in serious discussions about the country’s direction.
“The CDC asserts that Liberia is at a critical crossroads demanding urgent, honest dialogue and decisive engagement from all democratic forces,” the invitation reads, adding that the moment calls for reflection on governance, leadership, accountability and the stability of the country’s democracy.
The party told Cummings that his participation would strengthen the gathering’s credibility and national significance while advancing opposition solidarity and a clear vision for Liberia’s path forward.
