MONROVIA — ArcelorMittal Liberia has signed its sixth Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the United Workers Union of Liberia (UWUL), Local #4, securing new benefits for employees after two months of negotiations.
The agreement, signed Wednesday, grants a 14.5% salary increase, 15 days of paid annual leave, and a 75% boost in housing allowance to help workers move toward home ownership. It also includes a commitment to job mapping and restructuring within six months to promote fairness and transparency.
“Today is a proud day for the workers of ArcelorMittal Liberia,” UWUL Local #4 Chairman Roland Sneh said. “This agreement represents the sweat, sacrifice, and determination of workers. It will raise living standards for our members and their families.”
ArcelorMittal Liberia’s Chief Operating Officer, Anthony P. Kocken, who signed on behalf of CEO Michiel Van Der Merwe, praised the outcome and thanked both sides for what he described as a constructive process.
“The agreement demonstrates that AML values its workforce,” Kocken said. “It forms a cornerstone of partnership among ArcelorMittal, the union, and other stakeholders as the company moves into its Phase Two Expansion Project.”
Van Der Merwe also extended congratulations through Kocken, applauding those who helped finalize the deal.
Company officials said the sixth CBA reflects AML’s commitment to a respectful, collaborative relationship with employees, calling them “the heartbeat of our operations.”
Union leaders added that the deal should reinforce industrial harmony and improve satisfaction in Liberia’s mining sector, where ArcelorMittal remains the largest private employer.
The agreement is expected to strengthen productivity and stability as the company ramps up its expansion plans.
