MARGIBI COUNTY — The Alternative National Congress (ANC) over the weekend elected a new corps of officials to steer the affairs of the party through 2029 and beyond, during its National Convention held in Margibi County.
Party standard-bearer Alexander B. Cummings was re-elected unopposed, reaffirming his leadership as the ANC positions itself for Liberia’s next general and presidential elections.
Cummings Urges Innovation and Service
Speaking at the close of the convention, Cummings urged the newly elected officials to serve diligently and embrace innovation as the party charts a new course toward national relevance.
“I call on all of you, the newly elected officials of the Alternative National Congress, to embark on a new innovation that will move the party forward as the 2029 general and presidential elections approach,” Cummings said.
Reflecting on his 2023 presidential bid, Cummings acknowledged the National Elections Commission’s report showing he earned only 1% of the total votes cast but said he remains optimistic about the ANC’s growth.
“Every step begins with one, so I accept the result and I’m a one-pointer,” he said. “I envision new innovation for Liberia and urge the Unity Party government led by President Joseph N. Boakai to do the right things for the Liberian people.”
He decried persistent inequality in the management of the country’s resources. “Liberia is rich with natural resources, but these resources have been pocketed by very few Liberians, leaving the rest in abject poverty. It’s about time the bowl of rice gets bigger so that all Liberians can have their fair share,” Cummings said.
Gould Declares “New Dawn” for ANC
Also speaking at the event, National Chairman Atty. Lafayette E. O. Gould, a founding member of the ANC, described the 2025 convention as the beginning of a “new dawn” for the party.
According to him, the new leadership is determined to address the weaknesses that contributed to the ANC’s poor performance in the 2023 elections.
Atty. Gould defeated Mohamed Sheriff to retain his position as National Chairman.

The new national officers elected at the convention include:
- Political Leader: Alexander B. Cummings
- National Chairman: Atty. Lafayette E. O. Gould
- Vice Chair for Administration: Taa Wongbe
- Vice Chair for Operations: Solomon Abba Kollie
- National Secretary General: Desmond Ujay Nimely (former Communications Director)
- Vice Chair for Inter-Party Affairs: Musa Swary
- Vice Chair for Political Affairs: Victoria Torlo Koiquah
- Vice Chair for Legal Affairs: Moriah Yeakula-Korkpor
- Vice Chair for International Affairs: Munah Farhat
- Vice Chair for Finance and Investment: Queenyoun Siah Kpengba
- Deputy Secretary General: Siafa Dennis
- National Treasurer: Kaifa J. Konneh
The Women’s Congress is led by National Chair Kulah Kaizulu, with Vice Chair for Administration Jartu Boykai and National Secretary Rosa Park.
The Youth Congress leadership includes National Youth Chair Alieu Kiadii, Vice Chair for Administration Lawrence Spencer, and National Secretary General Obediah Sundaygar.
Delegates Converge from Across Liberia
The national convention drew delegates from all 15 political subdivisions of Liberia, signaling a renewed sense of unity and commitment to strengthening the party’s grassroots presence as it prepares for future political contests.
