MONROVIA — Liberian police say they have found no direct evidence linking suspended public figure Bryant McGill to the reported rape of a 14-year-old girl, even as forensic tests confirm the teen was sexually assaulted.
Inspector General Gregory O. W. Coleman told reporters this week that the case remains under “active investigation” but that “so far, there is nothing placing Mr. McGill at the scene.”
“Investigators are still analyzing data, and so far, there is nothing placing Mr. McGill at the scene,” Coleman said.
Police said medical tests confirmed the girl was raped, but stressed that no suspect has been identified. Coleman underscored that any charge must be based on “credible, corroborated evidence.”
Authorities have sought assistance from international partners to support digital forensics and other specialized investigative efforts.
Police said they have seized McGill’s phones but found no evidence placing him at the location cited by the victim. Investigators also flagged inconsistencies between the timeline provided by the girl and other evidence gathered — a key focus as the probe continues.
McGill’s current and expired passports have been surrendered to the Liberia National Police to prevent him from leaving the country while the investigation remains open.
“We understand the public’s concern, but we ask for patience,” he said. “This is a sensitive case, and it must be handled with the utmost care and integrity.”
