World Bank Group Managing Director and Chief Knowledge Officer Pascal Donohoe
MONROVIA — World Bank Group Managing Director and Chief Knowledge Officer Pascal Donohoe is expected to arrive in Liberia on Wednesday as part of a regional tour aimed at strengthening economic recovery efforts and accelerating development outcomes across West Africa.
Donohoe’s visit, which runs from March 15 to 20 and includes stops in Ghana and Liberia, marks his first trip to the region since assuming office in November 2025.
In Monrovia, the World Bank official is scheduled to hold high-level discussions with President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and senior government officials, including the Minister of Finance and Development Planning and the Executive Governor of the Central Bank of Liberia.
The talks are expected to center on key national priorities such as job creation, energy access, private sector investment and economic governance — areas where Liberia continues to rely heavily on multilateral support.
The visit also signals the World Bank Group’s broader strategy of translating reforms into tangible growth through private capital mobilization, technical expertise and policy support.
As part of his itinerary, Donohoe will tour the Mount Coffee Hydro-Power Plant, Liberia’s primary electricity source, which currently supplies about 88 megawatts of power to Monrovia and surrounding areas. The facility is also the site of an ongoing 20-megawatt solar photovoltaic project aimed at boosting the country’s renewable energy capacity.
He is also expected to engage with private sector leaders to explore opportunities for investment and collaboration, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure and education.
Liberia remains a key beneficiary of World Bank financing, with an active portfolio valued at approximately US$936.8 million across 18 projects. These investments span critical sectors including roads and energy infrastructure, health systems, agriculture, fisheries, governance reforms and social protection programs.
In addition, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector arm of the World Bank Group, maintains an active portfolio of about US$12.6 million in Liberia, while the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) supports a US$81 million cross-border telecommunications investment.
The Liberia leg of Donohoe’s visit follows engagements in Ghana, where he is meeting with President John Mahama and other stakeholders to discuss macroeconomic recovery and development strategies.
