GRANDCESS, Grand Kru County — Healthcare delivery in southeastern Liberia has received a significant boost following a donation of more than US$10,000 worth of medical supplies to Rally Time Hospital by the nonprofit Van Community Outreach Organization (VANCO).
The consignment, comprising 79 boxes of essential items, was presented by VANCO’s Chief Executive Director, Veronica Nimspon, during a brief ceremony in Grandcess.
The supplies include blood pressure machines, oximeters, glucometers, gloves, detergents and other critical materials intended to strengthen service delivery at the rural facility. VANCO said the total value of the donation — including procurement, storage and shipping — exceeds US$10,000.
Speaking at the presentation, Nimspon said the donation reflects the organization’s broader mission to support healthcare and expand educational opportunities for underserved communities across Liberia.
She noted that despite logistical and financial challenges associated with transporting supplies to Liberia, the organization, with support from partners, remains committed to reaching vulnerable populations, particularly in hard-to-access counties like Grand Kru.
Nimspon disclosed that Rally Time Hospital is currently the only rural health facility benefiting from VANCO’s ongoing medical outreach, which targets communities with limited access to essential healthcare services.
She urged hospital authorities to ensure the materials are properly managed and used to improve patient care, while also identifying priority needs for future interventions.
A native of Grand Kru County now based in the United States, Nimspon said giving back to her home county remains central to her work.
Beyond healthcare, she highlighted VANCO’s contributions to the education sector, including the construction of libraries and computer labs in several communities, including Fish Town, Klay, Betu, Sassatown, Grandcess and Barclayville.
According to her, 41 schools and nearly 9,000 students nationwide are benefiting from the organization’s library initiative, with plans underway to establish a computer lab with internet access in Grandcess.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the hospital, Assistant Nursing Director Thomas Jugeh praised the gesture, describing it as timely and impactful.
“This support will significantly improve the quality of care we provide to patients,” Jugeh said, while calling on other organizations and individuals to contribute to strengthening healthcare services in rural Liberia.
