MONROVIA — Unity Party National Chairman Rev. J. Luther Tarpeh has called on President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to carry out an immediate cabinet reshuffle, arguing the move would sharpen government performance, strengthen accountability, and speed delivery of programs meant to improve Liberians’ lives.
Speaking Tuesday on the state broadcaster ELBC, Tarpeh said periodic changes within government are necessary to assess performance, inject new energy into public institutions, and keep national priorities on track.
A reshuffle would give the administration a chance to improve efficiency and enhance public services nationwide, he said.
While stopping short of naming officials, Tarpeh stressed that leadership changes are a normal part of governance and can help institutions respond better to national challenges.
The chairman also expressed confidence in the administration and the party’s future, predicting that Boakai would win re-election in the first round of the 2029 presidential election. He tied that optimism to what he called growing public confidence in the government’s development agenda.
“We are preparing ourselves and positioning the party for victory,” he said, adding that the party remains focused on results that will earn voters’ trust ahead of the next election.
Tarpeh said the administration’s focus on infrastructure, economic recovery, job creation, and public service delivery is laying the foundation for sustained national progress, with benefits intended to outlast the immediate term.
Addressing concerns party supporters frequently raise about jobs, Tarpeh urged patience, saying no government can employ all its supporters or every citizen seeking public sector work.
“People must understand that no government has the capacity to employ all of its supporters or all of its citizens. What the government must do is create opportunities and create the environment for people to succeed,” he said.
Sustainable development depends on an enabling environment that encourages private-sector growth and economic participation, he said.
Tarpeh further positioned the party as a long-term governing institution capable of leading beyond a single electoral cycle, saying its policies are meant to guide Liberia’s development for years and build a stronger foundation for future generations.
Regarding political collaboration, Tarpeh disclosed that the ruling party has been engaging individuals and groups across the political spectrum, including opposition members, to foster national unity and broaden support for its development agenda.
“Political differences should not prevent Liberians from working together. We are engaging people across the political divide because national development requires collective effort,” he said.
He urged citizens to support initiatives that promote peace, stability and development, and to place the country’s interests above partisan considerations.
“We ask Liberians to remain united and supportive of the government as we work to improve the quality of life for our people and move the country forward,” he said.
