Supreme Court Puts Stay Order on FIA L$6M Case Involving Ex-Officials, Schedules Conference

Monrovia – The Liberian Investigator has gathered that Justice in Chambers, His Honor Yusuf Kaba, has issued a stay order on all proceedings related to the high-profile L$6 million Financial Intelligence Agency (FIA) case. This comes pending a conference scheduled for next week, September 4. The stay order effectively halts all further arrests and trial actions, allowing key defendants, including former Finance Minister Samuel Tweah, former Solicitor General Nyenatee Tuan and former FIA Director Stanley Ford, to move freely until the conference concludes.

This intervention follows a petition for a writ of prohibition filed before the Supreme Court by Cllr. Arthur Johnson, who stressed in the petition that the government’s ongoing actions against the ex-officials could jeopardize future security operations and pose significant risks to state security.

The case revolves around charges of economic sabotage and theft linked to an alleged unauthorized and illegal transfers totaling over L$1 billion and US$500,000. Key figures such as former Solicitor General, Cllr. Nyenatee Tuan, and former Security Advisor Jefferson Karmoh, were previously detained at the Monrovia Central Prison after the Monrovia City Court denied their lawyer’s petition for recognizance. They were later relased on bail and the case was transferred to Criminal Court ‘A’.
