ZOWEINTA, Bong County — House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon has hailed President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s leadership as “prepared, fearless, and focused,” predicting that the president’s strong performance could lead to a white-ballot victory for the ruling Unity Party in 2029.
Koon made the remarks over the weekend during the dedication of a new pipe-borne water project in Zoweinta, Bong County District #1.
He said President Boakai’s development-driven leadership has begun to resonate deeply with Liberians across the country. “With this kind of leadership, if we don’t take time, by 2029, if he contests or whoever else hands he lifts will win on white ballot,” Koon said confidently as a loud applause from the crowd braced the venue of the event.
While public view might differ with Koon’s view, especially considering the high cost of living in Liberia, the speaker’s comments reflect growing confidence within the ruling establishment over President Boakai’s governance record, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, rural development, and service delivery.
The newly dedicated water project in Zoweinta, part of broader efforts to expand access to clean drinking water across Bong County, marks another step in the government’s push to improve basic social services in underserved communities.
Local residents who are the direct beneficiaries of the project, praised the initiative, noting that it would significantly reduce waterborne diseases and ease the burden on women and children who previously walked long distances to fetch water. “As we see these kinds of projects reaching our people, it shows the president means well for us,” said a local Tokpah who attended the ceremony.
Speaker Koon, who represents Montserrado County District #11 but has been a vocal advocate of the Boakai administration, including a fight to have him as a “regime” Speaker so as to ensure the President’s agenda succeeds.
The Lawmaker urged citizens to remain patient and supportive as the government continues implementing its development agenda.
The Unity Party, which returned to power in 2024 after a six-year break, has promised the country so much and crafted an ambitious development plan which it has assured the country that it would implement in six years.

If Speaker Koon’s prediction holds true, it would mark a rare political feat in Liberia’s modern democracy, where elections have remained fiercely competitive since the end of the civil war.
Former President George Weah has since registered his intention to contest the Presidency, aiming at correcting the mistakes of his administration from 2018 to 2023. There are also still other prominent political opponents, including Alexander Benedict Cummings of the Alternative National Congress (ANC) who are poised to again test the political water in 2029.
