The Association of Liberian Journalists in the Americas (ALJA) has commended the Government of Liberia, under the leadership of His Excellency President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., for the significant diplomatic success resulting in the extension of United States visa validity for Liberian citizens.
The United States Department of State recently announced a revision to its visa reciprocity schedule for Liberia, extending the validity period for certain nonimmigrant visas from 12 months to 36 months. Under the new policy, Liberian applicants for B1 (Business), B2 (Tourism), and B1/B2 (Business/Tourism Combination) visas will now receive multiple-entry visas valid for three years, with no reciprocity fee attached for those who qualify.
ALJA described the decision as a milestone in U.S.–Liberia relations and a clear reflection of the growing confidence of the international community in Liberia’s governance and reform agenda.
“ALJA hails this achievement as a testament to President Boakai’s commitment to strengthening Liberia’s diplomatic ties and expanding opportunities for Liberians globally,” the association stated. “This new visa arrangement will not only ease travel for Liberians but also enhance business, education, and cultural exchanges between our two nations.”
In a statement, ALJA National President Mr. Joey Kennedy lauded President Boakai and his administration for their proactive diplomacy and renewed focus on international engagement.
“This development demonstrates Liberia’s reemergence as a trusted global partner,” Mr. Kennedy said. “It will open doors for Liberians in business, education, and tourism, while deepening the long-standing friendship between Liberia and the United States. We commend the Boakai administration for steering Liberia toward greater international inclusion and credibility.”
The association also praised Liberia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Madam Sara Beysolow Nyanti, for her leadership in implementing the President’s foreign policy vision and strengthening bilateral cooperation with the United States.
ALJA noted that this development will foster greater people-to-people connections and create an enabling environment for investment and tourism, contributing to Liberia’s broader economic growth and global engagement.
