MONROVIA — The Liberia National Handball Association has reaffirmed its recognition of J. Aratus Larkpor as the association’s legitimate president and reiterated that former president J. Mason Saweler, expelled in 2018, retains no authority to represent or conduct business on behalf of the organization.
Following a May 5 executive committee meeting, the LNHA confirmed Varney Kawah as vice president for administration, Samuel A. Hasay as vice president for operations, and Haji Musa Sesey as secretary general. The committee issued a public warning directed at sports authorities, corporate partners and international bodies, cautioning against engaging Saweler in any official capacity. “He has no legal right to speak for or transact business on behalf of the handball association,” the LNHA said, adding that any institution or individual who enters into agreements with unauthorized persons does so at their own risk and that the association will not be held liable for any resulting financial or legal consequences.
The dispute traces to March 2018, when the executive committee expelled Saweler over allegations of financial mismanagement, including claims that he failed to account for US$1,100 in government funds and did not produce financial reports for 15 years. Saweler has consistently rejected the expulsion as unlawful and maintained that he remains the association’s legitimate president.
The LNHA said it remains the sole governing body for handball in Liberia and is focused on developing domestic leagues, training referees and expanding opportunities for young athletes.
