Save the Children Embarks on Child Rights Training in Gbarnga

GBARNGA, Bong County – Save the Children International (SCI) Liberia Office has initiated a child rights and gender equity training program in Gbarnga, central Liberia. This training session has gathered an array of partners and policymakers from the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Ministry of Education, Foundation for International Dignity (FIND), Civil Society Council, Liberia National Police (LNP) Women and Children Protection Unit, and Parent Teachers Associations (PTAs) based in Gbarnga, along with the staff of Save the Children Liberia.

The primary goal of the training is to enrich participants’ knowledge of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and to foster the understanding and implementation of rights-based practices in schools. Additionally, the training aims to align these practices with existing legislation and policy frameworks.

During the intensive one-day session, participants discussed strategies on protecting children from harm and abuse and explored approaches to shield children from harmful discipline and discrimination.

The training featured several vital topics, including Understanding Child Maltreatment, Child Neglect, and Principles of Working with Children and Adolescents Exposed to Maltreatment. Discussions also highlighted Gender Equity, focusing on ensuring fairness to all individuals—boys, girls, women, and men—and addressing the prevalent issue of the gender gap.
