PAYNESVILLE CITY, Montserrado — The Chairperson of the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) Board of Commissioners, Clarence K. Massaqoui, has categorically rejected allegations of his involvement in the House of Representatives leadership impasse.
Recent media reports alleged that the LTA, under Massaqoui’s leadership, hired Cllr. H. Varney Sherman as outside legal counsel as a reward for his representation in the House’s legal battle.
Allegations Lacked Merit
Massaqoui described the allegations as “absolutely unfounded” and a “usual fruitless attempt to achieve distraction”. He emphasized that the LTA, under his watch, has not and will not get involved in political activities at the Legislature.
“Look, let me say this; ordinarily, I wouldn’t want to respond to these kinds of outlandish stuffs because, when you’ve built an admirable reputation that attracts public approval, and you are focused on delivering on an important public interest-driven assignment like ours, you don’t bother yourself with these little attempts to distract you,” Massaqoui said.
Commitment to Service Delivery
Massaqoui reiterated the LTA’s commitment to delivering on its statutory mandate of ensuring available, effective, affordable, and secure telecommunication services to the people of Liberia.
He highlighted the entity’s recent achievements, including a historic roaming agreement designed to reduce cross-border communication costs for travelers.
A Call to Support
The LTA Chairperson called on all Liberians to support the entity’s transformational agenda and resist pointless undertakings.
“These are among major goals and mission objectives that deserve the attention, energy, and time of every member of the LTA team, and not any endeavor that does not enhance the productive path of the entity and the best interest of the public,” he said.
