Dutch Sportswear Firm Signs On for Cabila Tournament

MONROVIA — The Coalition of Mande Last Names has secured a partnership with Netherlands-based Robey Sportswear to supply trophies and medals for the sixth edition of the Cabila Tournament, set to kick off May 3, 2026, in a deal organizers say marks the most significant commercial backing the community competition has attracted since its revival.

The agreement, valued at $2,390 and announced this week in Monrovia, places the Rotterdam-headquartered sportswear company in the role of principal sponsor, with its logo set to appear on banners, flyers and the main stage backdrop during the award ceremony, alongside visibility through the tournament’s official social media campaigns.

Mohammed Soumaworo, known as Sompiprince, who led negotiations on the coalition’s side, said the deal reflects more than financial support. “This partnership is not just about sponsorship; it’s about shared values,” he said. “Robey Sportswear believes in youth empowerment, cultural identity, and the unifying power of sport. That is exactly what the Cabila Tournament represents.”

Coalition leadership credited Robey founder and chief officer Arie van den Berg, along with his family and executive team, for committing to the initiative. “Their support is a testament to the global reach of sports and the bonds it can create,” the coalition chairman said.

Founded in 1947 and revitalized in 2012, Robey Sportswear has built a reputation for premium athletic apparel across football, tennis and padel, supplying professional and amateur clubs across the Benelux region. The Cabila Tournament partnership represents the company’s entry into the Liberian sports market.

The tournament itself began as a grassroots effort to bring communities together through football and has grown into a cultural fixture in Liberia, serving as a platform for celebrating Mande heritage and promoting inclusivity alongside athletic competition. Organizers say each successive edition has expanded in scale and community reach.

Soumaworo said the sixth edition intends to continue that trajectory. “Every year, we raise the bar,” he said. “This edition will not only showcase athletic talent but also highlight the unity of the Mande community. With Robey Sportswear on board, we are confident the event will reach new heights.”

The coalition chairman framed the tournament’s purpose in terms that extend beyond the competition itself. “This is about more than medals and trophies,” he said. “It’s about giving young people hope, pride, and a sense of belonging. May 3 will mark the beginning of a new chapter.”
