MONROVIA— QNET, an international wellness and lifestyle company, has strongly condemned an alleged kidnapping and travel scam uncovered in Monrovia, distancing itself from reports linking the company to the operation involving hundreds of Sierra Leoneans and other foreign nationals.
The statement follows reports that the Liberia National Police discovered several individuals at a location in Monrovia who claimed they were allegedly lured into a fraudulent travel arrangement falsely associated with QNET.
In a statement issued Monday, May 11, the company said it “will never condone or support holding people against their will or deceiving them with fake travel opportunities” in Liberia or any other country.
Addressing the allegations, Biram Fall, deputy chairman of QNET for Sub-Saharan Africa, described the reported acts as criminal and contrary to the company’s operations and principles.
“Alarmed about the alleged case of kidnapping falsely linked to QNET, Biram Fall, Deputy Chairman of QNET for Sub-Saharan Africa, categorically stated that holding people against their will is a very serious criminal offence, and QNET does not operate in that manner, adding that the company respects and abides by laws of Liberia and everywhere it operates,” the statement said.
Fall emphasized that fraudsters often misuse the company’s name to deceive unsuspecting victims through fake promises of employment, visa opportunities and investment schemes abroad.
“We will continue to provide authentic information about our business to the public so that it can help people understand how fraudsters misuse the company name and how to avoid them,” Fall said. “QNET does not offer investment schemes, jobs opportunities abroad or visas in exchange for money. The company does not coerce people into its business by kidnapping or trafficking them.”
According to QNET, one of the easiest ways to identify scammers is through promises of overseas jobs, visas or investment opportunities tied to requests for money or international travel.
The company said such schemes are frequently carried out by individuals falsely claiming affiliation with QNET in order to gain the trust of victims.
“According to him, the simplest way to identify these scammers is by their making false promises of employment, visas, or investments and asking victims to travel to other countries for these fake opportunities, sometimes using QNET’s name,” the statement noted.
As part of efforts to counter misinformation and fraudulent activities linked to its brand, QNET said it recently hosted a media webinar in Liberia involving approximately 25 journalists from various media institutions to deepen public understanding of the company’s operations and anti-scam initiatives.
The company also disclosed that it organized a product expo in Monrovia aimed at increasing awareness about its products and business model.
Across Sub-Saharan Africa, QNET said it is expanding its “QNET Against Scams” campaign through television, radio, online platforms, social media, billboards and print publications.
The company added that it is strengthening cooperation with security institutions and working to replicate its partnership with Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office in other West African countries to combat fraud and human trafficking-related schemes.
QNET urged the public to independently verify any opportunity claiming association with the company before making payments or traveling abroad.
The company encouraged individuals to contact its compliance department directly through WhatsApp at +233 2566 30005 or via email at [email protected] for verification.
