MONROVIA — Residents of Electoral District 14 in Montserrado County are celebrating a string of long-delayed development projects finally moving forward under their freshman lawmaker, who has earned a reputation for following through on campaign promises in less than two years in office.
Representative Muka Kekura Kamara, elected in the 2023 legislative elections, has revived major initiatives abandoned by predecessors over several decades. Residents have taken to calling him “Talk and Do” for his action-oriented approach.
At the center of his development push is a modern two-story community town hall in Clara Town, now nearing completion. Elders in the community say the neighborhood had endured a deteriorating hall built by its founders for more than 50 years.
“For five decades, we’ve endured a dilapidated hall built by our founders — long past its usefulness,” one elder said. “We never expected this.”
Kamara is simultaneously funding a bridge linking the Freeport, Doe and Clara Town communities, a project residents describe as previously unthinkable. Officials say the crossing will ease daily movement and improve conditions in the low-income neighborhoods once completed.
Kamara, who was born, raised and schooled in the district and graduated from First Assembly High School in Clara Town, said the communities remain his primary motivation.
“These communities are my heartbeat,” he said. “I’ll do everything humanly possible.”
