Monrovia — The Mano River Union Youth Parliament – Liberia Chapter says it has reinstated three of its former members who were expelled two years ago for violating the institution’s statutes and national laws, citing reconciliation and restorative justice as key reasons for the decision.
Those reinstated include Hon. Kupee Sie Washington of Grand Kru County, Hon. J. Benedict S. Paye of Margibi County, and Hon. Preston A. Divis of Grand Gedeh County.
According to the Parliament Speaker, the trio had been removed under Rule 39 of its revised statutes for actions considered inconsistent with the body’s regulations and the laws of Liberia. However, after consultations with former parliamentarians and internal deliberations, the plenary agreed to restore their membership.
“The plenary acknowledges their remorse and hereby rescinds its decision for expulsion and grants them clemency, thereby restoring their rights and privileges accorded to all members,” the institution said in its official release.
The decision was reached during an emergency sitting held on February 14, 2026, at the Parliament’s headquarters in Monrovia, where members unanimously voted in favor of reinstatement.
Speaker Daniel N. Nills described the move as one rooted in both discipline and reconciliation.
“This reinstatement underscores our commitment not only to accountability but also to restorative justice and unity within the institution, we look forward to the constructive re-engagement of these members as they contribute to the Parliament’s mission and uphold its values.” Nills stated.
The MRU Youth Parliament said the decision reflects its belief that leadership development among young people must include opportunities for correction, growth, and reintegration.
The Mano River Union Youth Parliament – Liberia Chapter serves as a platform for youth leadership, civic engagement, and regional cooperation across Liberia and the Mano River basin.
