MONROVIA — Liberian international Mohammed Sangare has signed with English National League club Morecambe FC for the 2025-26 season, the club announced Wednesday.
Sangare, 26, joins the Shrimps from Swiss Challenge League side AC Bellinzona, where he made 24 appearances last season and helped the club finish seventh in Switzerland’s second tier.
The midfielder began his professional career with Newcastle United in 2019 before moving to Accrington Stanley on loan the following year. He signed permanently with Stanley in 2022 and played 26 matches across all competitions during a one-year stint.
Sangare later joined Scottish Premiership side Livingston for the 2023-24 season, making 33 appearances and scoring once. Livingston were relegated that season, and Sangare then moved to Switzerland on a one-year deal.
Morecambe manager Ged Johal said Sangare’s experience and mentality made him an immediate target for the club.
“Mo is someone we identified straight away,” Johal said. “He has a lot of EFL experience and the skill set to help us compete immediately in the National League. He’s got the mentality we’re looking for — a winning mindset and a desire to improve.”
Sangare’s signing comes after Morecambe appointed Ian Hutton as head of physical performance. Hutton previously worked with Cheltenham Town, Solihull Moors, Notts County and Woking.
“He’s a fantastic coach who will lead all aspects of our physical performance,” Johal said. “His work with Luke Williams at Notts County was outstanding and helped build a team that dominated games both physically and with the ball.”
Morecambe are aiming to return to the English Football League after being relegated in 2024.
