Riyadh, Saudi Arabia — Liberia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Mme. Sara Beysolow Nyanti, has paid an official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as part of efforts to deepen the longstanding relationship between the two nations and explore new avenues for cooperation across political, economic, and development sectors.
During a series of high-level meetings with senior Saudi officials, Minister Nyanti conveyed Liberia’s appreciation for the Kingdom’s enduring partnership and acknowledged the various forms of support Saudi Arabia has extended to Liberia over the years.
She specifically lauded the Kingdom’s assistance to Liberia’s Muslim community, including the consistent allocation of Hajj pilgrimage slots. She also expressed gratitude for Saudi Arabia’s recent contributions to Liberia’s development efforts — notably the US$2 million donation toward renovation works at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, funded by the Saudi Fund for Development. Additionally, she welcomed the Kingdom’s US$500,000 contribution toward food assistance and its donation of 50 metric tons of dates to support Liberia’s humanitarian needs.
A key focus of Minister Nyanti’s visit was Liberia’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council. She appealed to Saudi Arabia for its support, emphasizing Liberia’s unwavering commitment to global peace and security, and its readiness to contribute meaningfully on the world stage.
Minister Nyanti also conveyed a message of solidarity and cooperation from His Excellency President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., expressing his eagerness to strengthen ties with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. She outlined Liberia’s development agenda and called for increased Saudi investment in key sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, and energy.
In response, the Kingdom’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Acting Foreign Minister, His Excellency Mr. Waleed A. Elkhereiji, commended Liberia for its political stability and peaceful democratic transition following the country’s recent elections. He described Liberia as a model of good governance and sustainable development on the African continent.
Deputy Minister Elkhereiji reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s full support for Liberia’s Security Council bid, noting the country’s important role in promoting peace, security, and international cooperation. He further reiterated the Kingdom’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and supporting Liberia’s priority development areas, particularly in agriculture, infrastructure, and electricity.
