PAYNESVILLE – Former Montserrado County District #6 representative candidate Melton Yoko has launched a vocational training institute aimed at equipping young Liberians with marketable skills to help them break cycles of poverty and unemployment.
The Melton Yoko Empowerment Institute, located on the campus of Antioch Baptist School in the Rehab community, will offer hands-on training in fields including engineering, information technology, business, health sciences, and fashion design.
During Monday’s opening ceremony, the institute’s Executive Director, Tye C. Tarlibo, urged young people in the district to seize the opportunity, calling vocational education a “pathway out of hardship.”
“The future of this country depends on you,” Tarlibo said. “Make use of the opportunity provided today.”
Tarlibo praised Yoko for initiating the program, saying skills training is critical to Liberia’s long-term economic recovery.
Yoko, who ran in the 2023 legislative elections, said the launch of the institute reflects his commitment to serving the community beyond politics.
“We’re not just running a vocational school,” Yoko said. “We will be graduating people who are ready to learn and contribute meaningfully to society.”
He emphasized that vocational training can help young people become self-reliant and job-ready, especially in the absence of formal employment opportunities.
“I want to thank my brothers and sisters who are helping me in this process,” Yoko added. “We are going to make this vocational school second to none in District #6.”
