KAKATA, Margibi — A medical referral form from C.H. Hospital indicates that Michael Brown, 31, was referred to C.H. Rennie Hospital from Kakata Central Prison on September 19, 2024, at 7:45 a.m. for a radiological examination (medical imaging such as an X-ray or CT scan) and further treatment after an alleged blunt injury to his left flank—the area between the lower ribs and the hip on the left side of the body.
According to the medical document, Brown reported that he was struck on his left side by a sliding door about 24 hours earlier. The referral also states that he had previously suffered multiple rib fractures (broken ribs) on the same side during an accident in 2023.
The examination found Brown to be conscious but in severe pain. Medical staff noted left flank tenderness (pain on touch of the injured area) and reduced breath sounds on the left side, which can indicate that less air than normal was moving through that lung. His vital signs showed a blood pressure of 128/87 mmHg, a body temperature of 36.8°C, and a pulse of 126 beats per minute, which is faster than the normal resting heart rate for most adults.
The referral states that Brown was attended to by Dr. Amos Paye and was assessed as having trauma (physical injury) to the left flank resulting from a blunt kinetic injury, meaning an injury caused by the impact of a non-sharp object. Before the referral, he was reportedly given Pentazocine (a pain-relieving medication), Paracetamol (used to reduce pain and fever), and Dexamethasone (a steroid medicine used to reduce inflammation and swelling).
However, verifying the authenticity of the referral document may be difficult. The form does not include the attending doctor’s medical license number or an official hospital stamp. While it lists a telephone number (0777667706), the doctor named on the purported referral, Dr. Amos Paye, died in June 2025, making direct verification with him impossible.
