Major ECOWAS statutory meetings open Wednesday in Monrovia

Monrovia – The Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP) and the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) announce the opening of the Joint ECOWAS/WAMA, WAIMI, and WAIFEM Statutory Meetings from February 4 – 13 in Liberia.

These high-level meetings bring together the ECOWAS Commission and the monetary and financial bodies –the West African Monetary Agency (WAMA), West African Monetary Institute (WAMI), and the West African Institute for Financial and Economic Management (WAIFEM).

Convened twice annually on a rotational basis across Member States, the Statutory Meetings serve as a critical platform for assessing macroeconomic performance and advancing regional economic integration.

The decision-making structure of the Statutory Meetings includes the Joint Technical Committee, the Committee of Governors, and the Convergence Council of Ministers of Finance and Central Bank Governors.

These events will begin with the WAIFEM Technical Meeting from February 4 to 5 at CBL Headquarters, the College of Supervisors of the West African Monetary Zone (WAMZ) meeting from February 4 – 7 at Belle Casa Hotel, and the ECOWAS/WAMA Technical meeting from February 9 – 11 at the CBL headquarters.

These meetings will be climaxed with two high-level events– the Committee of Governors of Central Banks on 12^th February 2026, and the Convergence Council of Ministers of Finance and Governors of Central Banks on 13^th February 2026 at Farmington Hotel in Margibi County. 

The meetings will review Member States’ macroeconomic developments and evaluate progress toward meeting the ECOWAS Macroeconomic Convergence Criteria, benchmarks essential to the successful launch of the region’s planned single currency, the ECO.

Liberia’s hosting of the 2025 End-Year Joint Meetings underscores the country’s continued commitment to regional cooperation, macroeconomic stability, and the broader ECOWAS vision of monetary integration.

The event is expected to attract leading policymakers, Central Bank Governors, Ministers of Finance, senior technical experts, and development partners from across West Africa.
