LPRC Pledges $20,000 to Lone Star, Honored by LBA

MONROVIA — The Liberia Petroleum Refining Company has pledged $20,000 to support the Lone Star’s campaign in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, further strengthening its growing involvement in Liberian sports.

The pledge was announced during a fundraising dinner in Monrovia organized to mobilize financial support for Liberia’s senior men’s national team.

LPRC said its contribution goes beyond financial assistance, describing the pledge as a demonstration of patriotism, national unity and solidarity with the Lone Star.

The company’s support comes as Liberia continues its campaign in the AFCON 2027 qualifiers, with the national team seeking the financial resources needed to meet the demands of international competition.

Under Managing Director Amos B. Tweh, LPRC has become an increasingly visible supporter of sports in Liberia. Tweh is supported by his principal deputies for Administration and Operations, Jacob Julius Smith and Eric Ceekay Saryee, in expanding the company’s sports programs.

LPRC has also rebranded its Sports Association, with its football and basketball teams competing in Liberia’s major leagues.

The company’s basketball team won the 2025 Liberia Basketball Association First Division championship before finishing as runners-up in the 2026 season.

On the football side, LPRC Oilers FC continues to compete in the national league, adding to the company’s growing sports portfolio.

LPRC’s commitment to basketball was also recognized recently when the Liberia Basketball Association named the company its Corporate Sponsor of the Year 2026.

Presenting the award, LBA Chairman James Emmanuel Potter praised LPRC for its continued contributions to basketball development in Liberia.

“We appreciate LPRC for its consistent support of basketball and the valuable partnership we continue to share,” Potter said.

Receiving the award on behalf of Tweh, who is out of the country, Deputy Managing Director for Administration and Acting Managing Director Jacob Julius Smith thanked the LBA for the recognition.

“We are grateful to the LBA for this recognition. LPRC remains committed to supporting sports development and creating opportunities for young Liberians,” Smith said.

Tweh’s involvement also extends to national football administration. He was elected to the Liberia Football Association Executive Committee during the 2026 elections and serves on the Lone Star Mobilization Committee, which helps raise financial support for the national team.

With the $20,000 pledge, LPRC becomes one of the latest institutions to contribute to the national effort to finance the Lone Star’s AFCON 2027 campaign.
