MONROVIA — Lonestar Cell MTN, through its Mobile Money platform, has signed a one-year sponsorship agreement with Shaita Angels Football Club, a side competing in the Liberian Upper Women’s League.
The deal, announced Friday, provides 1 million Liberian dollars in financial support and grants branding rights to the telecommunications company for the 2025–26 Liberia Football Association season. The agreement does not include an option for extension beyond the current term.
The move expands Lonestar Cell MTN’s growing footprint in Liberian football. In 2024, the company launched the MoMo Community League, a three-year partnership with the LFA to support U-17 grassroots football in Montserrado County.
Based in Careysburg outside Monrovia, Shaita Angels also renewed sponsorships with Bettomax (valued at $16,000), NEEV-Liberia ($18,000), and AUG Insurance Company. AquaPure, a bottled water provider, ended its partnership with the club, though no reason was given.
Club CEO Benita Whitney Urey welcomed the new deal while urging more companies to support both men’s and women’s football, especially youth development.
“While companies like NEEV-Liberia, Bettomax and Lonestar Cell MTN are supporting a few clubs, more still struggle financially,” Urey said Saturday in Monrovia. “This affects recruitment and overall competitiveness.”
She praised Lonestar Cell MTN for its commitment and expressed optimism about the club’s prospects.
“With all these sponsorships, we cannot afford to let our fans down,” she said. “Our eyes are on the championship.”
The Angels also announced long-term contract extensions for key players. Midfielders Marie Wiles and Marie Pascale, goalkeeper Albertha Pratt, defender Francisca Howe, and forward Miatta Morris have all signed through 2027, with some deals stretching to 2028.
Urey said the club plans to unveil new signings in September as part of its effort to strengthen the squad.
“To be a champion, you have to get the best players,” she said. “We’re active in the transfer market to build a solid team that delivers results.”
