MONROVIA — The Liberia National Police launched a training program for driving school instructors Sunday, requiring them to obtain certification before teaching students, as part of broader reforms that will also make a driving school certificate mandatory for anyone seeking a driver’s license.
The initiative began at LNP headquarters and brought together representatives from several driving schools across the capital.
Instructor training and certification
Fred M. Gaye, deputy commissioner of police and chief of public safety, said the training is designed to deepen instructors’ understanding of traffic regulations, particularly the Rules of the Road, the regulatory framework governing driver conduct in Liberia.
“We are engaging driving schools to train their instructors in the Rules of the Road so that they will be better equipped to effectively train their students on these important principles,” Gaye said. “Upon completion, instructors will be certified.”
The certification is intended to standardize driver training and ensure instructors meet minimum competency requirements before teaching new drivers.
New licensing requirement
Gaye also announced that all applicants seeking a driver’s license must now present a valid driving school certificate before proceeding to the police testing and evaluation stage. The requirement is intended to ensure that only individuals who are formally trained are licensed to operate vehicles.
“The Liberia National Police remains committed to promoting road safety and ensuring that all drivers are adequately trained and knowledgeable about traffic regulations,” Gaye said.
