MONROVIA — President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has pledged government collaboration with the Helping Africa Foundation on a series of education proposals, including the introduction of digital learning platforms that operate without internet connectivity and the renovation of school facilities across Liberia.
The commitment was made at the Executive Mansion during a meeting with a delegation from United Methodist University, led by Interim President Cllr. Medina Wesseh.
The delegation also included Helping Africa Foundation President Dr. Deborah Rose, Executive Director Japhet Aryiku, and Deputy Executive Director Jonathan Weisner.
Offline learning proposal
Wesseh briefed Boakai on United Methodist University’s efforts to expand access to digital education for Liberian students without relying on internet connectivity — a significant barrier in a country where broadband access remains limited outside major urban centers.
The delegation also discussed the renovation of school buildings and ongoing engagement with the Ministry of Education on the proposals, according to an Executive Mansion statement.
Rose, who is in Liberia to serve as commencement speaker at the university’s 2026 graduation, expressed interest in advancing digital transformation in the country through the institution, the statement said.
Du Bois monument
The meeting also touched on plans to erect a monument honoring W.E.B. Du Bois, the prominent Black American civil rights scholar and advocate who had historic ties to Liberia.
Du Bois previously served as Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Liberia under President Calvin Coolidge and attended the inauguration of President Charles D.B. King in the 1920s. He later relocated to Ghana, where he died in August 1963.
Kofi Boateng of the W.E.B. Du Bois Foundation was among those present at the meeting.

Also attending were Kafui Prebbie, CEO of IMPLEMENTERS, and Laurin Assiamah-Yeboah, head of portfolio and operations at the same organization.
Boakai expressed appreciation to Rose and other partners for their commitment to Liberia’s education sector. Both sides pledged continued engagement to advance the foundation’s proposed initiatives, the Executive Mansion said.
