MONROVIA – The Liberia Football Association has appointed former Arsenal striker Christopher Wreh as caretaker coach ahead of two international friendlies this weekend.
Wreh’s appointment has raised questions, as the LFA has not officially announced the departure of Thomas Kojo, who led the team during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Wreh has been part of the national team’s technical setup, working alongside Kojo and former coach Peter Butler. He earned his CAF A License in March 2025 in Egypt, completing the program alongside fellow Liberian legend Kelvin Sebwe.
The LFA and the Ministry of Youth and Sports have yet to appoint a permanent head coach following the resignation of Mario Marinica in October 2024.
The Lone Star’s local contingent arrived in Casablanca early Sunday to begin preparations for matches against Benin on March 27 and Libya on March 31.
Wreh has named a 24-man squad that blends domestic-based players with those playing abroad, signaling a strategy aimed at building cohesion while assessing talent.
He is expected to hand international debuts to Tito Yormie and Netherlands-based goalkeeper Amos Wesseh.
Yormie recently signed with FC Neman Grodno and helped the club win the Belarusian Super Cup. The former Mighty Enforcers midfielder previously featured for FC Slonim before moving to the top division.
Wesseh, 25, plays for ROHDA Raalte in the Dutch fourth tier. He has recorded three clean sheets in eight appearances this season, conceding nine goals.
The squad also includes the return of striker Peter Wilson. Eighteen-year-old forward Emmanuel Flomo, who is on the books of Al Hilal, and Turkey-based winger Prince Martor Jr. have also been named.
With limited official information about the friendlies, The Liberian Investigator has gathered that the Moroccan Football Federation is covering lodging, ticketing and local transportation.
