MONROVIA — Liberian forward Peter Wilson has claimed the 2025 USL Championship Golden Boot after scoring in Oakland Roots’ 3–0 victory over Lexington SC on the final day of the regular season. Wilson, 28, finished the campaign with 18 goals and five assists, topping the league’s scoring chart in his debut season.
His goal on Saturday extended his scoring streak to eight consecutive matches, tying Hadji Barry’s all-time league record. The strike also lifted Wilson to 22 total goal contributions (goals and assists) this season, surpassing Óttar Magnús Karlsson’s record to become Oakland Roots’ single-season leader.
Wilson joined Oakland Roots in January 2025 from Norwegian club FK Jerv. Before that, he played for Olympiakos Nicosia in Cyprus and was part of FC Sheriff Tiraspol’s Moldovan league-winning squad in 2021.
The forward began his professional career in Sweden with GIF Sundsvall, where he made his senior debut in 2016. He later had a short spell in Poland with Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biała in 2021. On the international stage, Wilson made his debut for Liberia on Oct. 9, 2019, against Chad. He has since earned 16 caps and scored two goals for the Lone Star.
