Monrovia – The Ministry of Health has launched its third quarter distribution of essential medicines and medical supplies ahead of schedule, in anticipation of nationwide road closures expected to disrupt logistics in the coming weeks.
The fast-tracked initiative, ordered by Health Minister Dr. Louise M. Kpoto, aims to avoid delays associated with road infrastructure work being carried out by the Ministry of Public Works.
Dr. Joshua Tarpeh Peters Jr., Director of Pharmaceutical Services and Chief Pharmacist of the Republic of Liberia, said the early deployment is intended to maintain uninterrupted access to critical health commodities.
“We have begun dispatching trucks to unpaved areas, including picking, verifying, and packing essential medicines and supplies for all national programs at the Central Medical Store in Caldwell,” Dr. Peters said.
The World Food Programme (WFP), the Ministry’s logistics partner, is expected to begin transporting the supplies on July 17, 2025. Deliveries will reach county depots, hospitals, health centers, and last-mile facilities in remote areas expected to be affected by the planned roadworks.
The distribution effort is scheduled for completion by July 28, 2025, ensuring all 15 counties receive their allocated supplies before road conditions worsen.
The Ministry has reassured health facilities and the general public of its continued oversight of the supply chain to prevent stockouts and ensure seamless service delivery during the third quarter.
