-As it celebrates President Boakai’s declaration of a month-long series honoring efforts aimed at supporting good governance in Liberia
MONROVIA — The Governance Commission has unveiled a month-long series of activities aimed at promoting accountability and transparency in public institutions after President Joseph Nyuma Boakai proclaimed October as Liberia’s Month of Good Governance.

The activities will include a national dialogue bringing together integrity institutions and other stakeholders, a march for good governance, sporting activities and a National Integrity Index Awards Dinner.
Governance Commission Executive Director Jallah C. Kesselly announced the activities Tuesday, Sept. 22, during the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing in Monrovia.
Kesselly said the observance will focus on increasing public awareness of accountability, transparency and other principles of good governance through institutional and public engagements. “The month of October will be commemorated to observe the tenets of good governance. Our theme is ‘Promoting Accountability and Transparency in Government or Governance,’” Kesselly said.
According to Kesselly, the month’s activities will begin Oct. 6 at the Governance Commission’s headquarters on Third Street, with former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf expected to serve as guest of honor.
“We will delve into the history of the Governance Commission and, more importantly, the relevance of the Commission today,” he said.
The commission will hold a march for good governance on Oct. 16, beginning at 8:30 a.m. The procession will end at Invincible Sports Park near Fish Market, where participants will take part in sporting and other activities through the afternoon.
“The march will lead us to the Invincible Park over at Fish Market, where we will have a series of sporting activities. We should close the day around 4 p.m.,” Kesselly said.
The commission will then host a two-day National Good Governance Dialogue on Oct. 22 and 23 at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town. Kesselly said the event will bring together stakeholders, including Liberia’s integrity institutions, to discuss governance issues.
“It is also important to mention that the Governance Commission is the anchor institution in Liberia for all integrity institutions. So, it is befitting that we will have a two-day dialogue addressing issues of good governance with our stakeholders and other integrity institutions,” Kesselly said.
The monthlong observance is expected to climax Oct. 30 with the National Integrity Index Awards Dinner at the Ministerial Complex.
Kesselly said President Boakai, whom the commission described as the country’s “Chief Patron of Integrity,” is expected to attend as special guest.
“We would like to thank you all, and those are the series of activities we will have for our Month of Good Governance,” Kesselly said.
