The growing rivalry between Determine Girls and Shaita Angels will continue this Friday at Tusa Field in the opening match of the 2025-2026 Liberia Football Association (LFA) Upper Women’s League. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Defending champions Determine Girls have been dominant in recent encounters with Shaita, winning eight of the last 10 meetings across all competitions. Shaita has claimed two victories, with Determine Girls scoring 17 goals and conceding eight in those matches.
The two losses to Shaita came in the Orange Cup and the Super Cup. Determine Girls suffered a 1-0 defeat in the second leg of the 2023-2024 Orange Cup quarter final after winning the first leg 2-1. They also lost 4-3 in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in the 2024-2025 LFA Women’s Super-Cup at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex (SKD).
This season, Shaita has strengthened its squad with the hiring of Arab Fofana, one of Liberia’s most experienced coaches and a CAF instructor, as head coach. His first match will be against his former classmate, Robert Lartey, who is in charge of Determine Girls.
Shaita has also made key signings, including Ghana U-20 striker Sarah Abrafi from Dreamz Ladies of the Ghana Women’s Premier League. Abrafi, a former member of Ghana’s U-17 and U-20 national teams, has previously played for Orthodox Club of Jordan, Sea Lions of Ghana, and AS Police of Nigeria. Shaita also acquired Ghanaian midfielder Celestina Boye from Northern Ladies FC and Christine Kouadio, known as “Ballpasser,” from Kneeling Warriors FC.
Determine Girls have made some notable signings of their own, including Rashidatu Kamara, Delphine Glao, and Bendu Yantay. However, they will be without midfielder Jessica Quachie and striker Bentou Sylla, both of whom have moved to Israel.
Before the game, Senior Professionals will face World Girls at 3:30 p.m. On Sunday, newly promoted Small Town will take on Kneeling Warriors at 10:30 a.m. at the SKD Practice Pitch. Later that day, Ravia Angels will meet Falconets at 11 a.m. at Tusa Field, while Bushrod Queens and Real Muja will battle at 1 p.m. at the same venue. At North Star, Earth Angels will play Tap Tap at 4 p.m.
