Monrovia — Liberian basketball champions LPRC Oilers will tip off their Road to the Basketball Africa League (BAL) campaign this Friday, Oct 7, 2025 against Benin’s Ellan Coton in Abidjan.
The tournament serves as a qualifying pathway to the BAL, Africa’s premier basketball league, organized in partnership with the NBA and FIBA.
It brings together top clubs from across the continent to compete for a place in the prestigious competition.
Oilers departed Liberia early Thursday morning via Roberts International Airport in Margibi County.
They were drawn into a competitive group that includes Ellan Coton, Ghanaian champions Spintex Knights, and Ivorian side Jeunesse Club d’Abidjan.
Their qualification follows a dramatic conclusion to the 2025 Liberia Basketball Association (LBA) championship.
They were leading the best-of-five finals series 2–1 against NPA Pythons when Pythons failed to appear for Game 4 on Sunday, citing alleged biased officiating. However, the LBA dismissed NPA Pythons complaint, and Oilers were declared champions by forfeit.
Now representing Liberia on the continental stage, the Oil Boys will aim to secure a spot in the BAL and elevate the profile of Liberian basketball.
