Monrovia— The Liberia Football Association (LFA) has concluded separate training programs for referee instructors, assessors and aspiring match commissioners as part of its ongoing efforts to improve football officiating and competition management across the country.
The capacity-building workshop for referee instructors and assessors equipped participants with tools to modernize the training and evaluation of match officials in domestic competitions.
Throughout the program, participants focused on achieving a uniform interpretation of the Laws of the Game and implementing evaluation structures aimed at enhancing the integrity and fairness of local football competitions.
Speaking at the close of the workshop, FIFA Technical Instructor and lead facilitator Al Mohammed Ahmed thanked the LFA and its Referees Department for successfully organizing the training. He expressed confidence in the ability of Liberian referee instructors to represent the country on the international stage.
Ahmed emphasized the dynamic nature of the Laws of the Game and stressed the importance of staying updated with the latest interpretations and practices.
Judge Joseph M. Kollie, de facto chairman of the LFA Referee Committee, thanked Ahmed for sharing his expertise and praised the LFA for its continued investment in referee development, including training opportunities for former referees.
Kollie urged participants to apply the knowledge gained from the workshop, remain technically proficient and contribute positively to national and international competitions.
Meanwhile, the LFA also concluded a two-day beginner training course for aspiring match commissioners at its headquarters on Tuesday.
The course, which began Monday, was designed to provide participants with the foundational skills needed to ensure the integrity, security and professional conduct of domestic football competitions.
Participants received instruction in competition regulations, matchday management, official reporting procedures and the FIFA Connect system.
During the closing ceremony, LFA General Secretary Emmett Crayton congratulated the participants for their commitment and willingness to learn. He also commended Commissioner General and former LFA President, Sombo Izetta Wesley and her team of facilitators for helping prepare a new generation of match officials.
For her part, Wesley thanked the LFA leadership for its continued support of match commissioner development. Participants also expressed appreciation to the LFA and facilitators for the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills.
The LFA said the training initiatives form part of its broader commitment to professionalizing match officials and raising standards in football administration and competition management throughout Liberia.
