CONGO TOWN — The Liberia Football Association’s (LFA) Independent Elections Committee has revised its electoral timetable following a court decision lifting an injunction that had temporarily halted the process.
The committee, chaired by Cllr. Meo Debbah Neyan, announced that the deadline for submission of applications and nominations has been extended to March 26, 2026, at 5 p.m.
Despite the delay, the elections remain scheduled for April 18, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. in Harper, Maryland County, in line with the LFA Statutes (2018, as amended), as well as FIFA and Confederation of African Football (CAF) regulations.
Process Back on Track
The committee said the adjustment is intended to allow prospective candidates additional time to complete the nomination process while maintaining the credibility and transparency of the elections.
It reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a process that meets both national and international governance standards.
The revision follows a March 17 ruling by the Civil Law Court, which lifted a temporary injunction that had stalled preparations and created uncertainty around the electoral timeline.
Legal Challenge Continues
The injunction stemmed from a legal challenge filed March 10 by LFA presidential aspirant Cassell Kuoh, who raised concerns about aspects of the electoral framework.
Kuoh’s legal team argued that the process must strictly adhere to LFA statutes, the Electoral Code, and FIFA and CAF regulations. The petition also questioned eligibility criteria requiring candidates to meet statutory qualifications and have no record of fraud, financial misconduct, or misappropriation of funds.
Both parties are scheduled to return to court on March 20 for further proceedings, even as the electoral process resumes under the revised timetable.
The developments mark a critical phase in the lead-up to the LFA elections, with attention now focused on how the process unfolds amid ongoing legal scrutiny.
