MONROVIA — The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), has concluded a month-long series of specialized training sessions aimed at strengthening the operational capacity of its officers in southeastern Liberia.
The initiative, which began on May 19 in Greenville, Sinoe County, trained more than 100 officers from Sinoe, Maryland, River Gee, and Grand Gedeh counties.
Led by Fred Souh, head of LDEA’s Training Department, and Samuel Blamah, chief of the agency’s Crime Lab, the sessions covered five core modules: investigative interviewing, basic intelligence analysis, seaport interdiction, risk management, and the interdiction and identification of precursor chemicals and drugs.
The training commenced with 11 officers in Sinoe County. From May 26 to 30, 28 officers were trained in Maryland County. River Gee followed with 36 officers receiving training from June 1 to 6. The final phase, held in Grand Gedeh County from June 9 to 13, brought together 35 officers.
In total, 110 officers benefited from the program.
“This training is part of our broader mandate to build the capacity of our field officers,” Souh said. “With the support of UNODC, we are equipping our personnel with the skills necessary to effectively fight drug-related crimes in their communities.”
The LDEA leadership noted that similar training programs will be extended to other counties as logistical support becomes available.
Participants expressed gratitude to the LDEA and UNODC, stating that the knowledge and skills acquired will significantly improve their ability to combat drug trafficking and related offenses in their respective jurisdictions.
