MONROVIA — Eminent citizens of Grand Gedeh County on Sunday rallied behind President Joseph Nyumah Boakai’s appointment of Christopher Beh Bailey as the county’s new superintendent, expressing optimism about his leadership and pledging to cooperate with him to advance development in the county.
The citizens gathered on September 13 to publicly thank President Boakai for appointing Bailey and to commend his administration for what they described as increased attention to Grand Gedeh County.
Chair Watson Chelley, who read a statement on behalf of the group, said the gathering was intended to express the citizens’ appreciation for Bailey’s appointment and their willingness to work with him.
“Mr. President, we, the peace-loving citizens of Grand Gedeh County, wish to use this opportunity and this public platform to sincerely extend our profound gratitude to your honorable office for the timely appointment of our son, brother, and father, Honorable Christopher Bailey, as Superintendent of Grand Gedeh County,” the statement said.
The citizens described Bailey’s appointment as a decision that has generated excitement and renewed optimism among residents, saying they believe his leadership experience will help address the county’s development needs.
“We believe the appointment of Honorable Bailey was a well-considered decision. We have confidence in his visionary and development-oriented leadership philosophy,” the group said.
The citizens said they expect Bailey to promote stronger coordination among stakeholders while advancing development and reconciliation across Grand Gedeh.
They also thanked President Boakai for appointing several Grand Gedeans to national positions, including Cllr. Neto Zarzay Lighe Sr., commissioner of the Liberia Maritime Authority; Eric Ceekay Saye, deputy managing director for operations at the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company; Peter Solo, director general of the National Lottery Authority; T. Wilson Gaye, deputy managing director for administration at the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation; and Alex Grant, commissioner of the Public Procurement and Concessions Commission.
The group said the appointments reflect what it considers the administration’s recognition of Grand Gedeh citizens and their professional contributions to Liberia.
The citizens also cited development initiatives in the county, including the dedication of a regional referral hospital, road maintenance and the provision of heavy equipment.
They said the equipment could help ease transportation constraints and costs while improving farmers’ ability to move their produce to markets.
The group also commended the administration’s anti-corruption efforts, saying it supports measures aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability and good governance.
“The people of Grand Gedeh County wish to reassure you of their willingness to support initiatives that advance the developmental agenda of the Republic of Liberia,” the statement said.
The citizens said Bailey’s appointment has created expectations for accelerated development and stronger coordination in the county.
They pledged their cooperation to the new superintendent as he begins his tenure and urged residents to work together in pursuit of Grand Gedeh’s development.
“With the appointment of Honorable Christopher Bailey as Superintendent of Grand Gedeh County, there is renewed hope and confidence for accelerated development, stronger coordination, and effective cooperation,” the statement said.
Bailey, a former superintendent of Grand Gedeh County, having previously served in the position during the administration of former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. His return to the county’s top administrative post has prompted renewed expectations among supporters who say his previous experience could help him navigate the county’s development and governance challenges.
The group thanked President Boakai and reaffirmed its support for initiatives promoting peace, unity, good governance and sustainable development in Liberia.
