MONROVIA — President Joseph N. Boakai Sr. has appointed Mike B. Jabateh as Acting Deputy Director General for Publicity at the National Food Assistance Agency, with Jabateh pledging to use the new assignment to strengthen public awareness, food assistance coordination, and service to vulnerable Liberians.
In a social media statement after his appointment, Jabateh thanked President Boakai for the confidence reposed in him, describing the new responsibility as a call to duty, accountability, and service to the Liberian people. “I do not take this responsibility lightly. Public service is not merely about holding a position or a title; it is a call to duty, accountability, and service to the Liberian people,” Jabateh said.
He said the National Food Assistance Agency has an important national responsibility to strengthen food assistance and ensure that vulnerable Liberians are not left behind. According to Jabateh, the Agency serves as a key link between the Government of Liberia, international donors, and non-governmental organizations in coordinating food distribution. He also pointed to its role in implementing Home-Grown School Feeding initiatives to promote the use of locally produced food.
Jabateh further highlighted the Agency’s support for vulnerable groups through food stamps and free meal programs targeting the elderly, persons with disabilities, pregnant women, and orphaned children. He said the Agency is also advancing its 2026–2030 Strategic Framework, which includes the development of regional food storage hubs and partnerships with institutions such as the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP). “These responsibilities make this assignment more than a new position for me it is an opportunity to contribute directly to a national cause that affects the lives and well-being of our people,” Jabateh said.
The newly appointed Acting Deputy Director General for Publicity said his years of engagement with communities, particularly across the Western Region, have strengthened his understanding of Liberians’ realities, concerns, and aspirations. He said the experience, coupled with his new responsibility, would enable him to contribute meaningfully to the Agency’s work. Jabateh said he looks forward to working with his superiors and colleagues with dedication, professionalism, integrity, and a results-oriented mindset to strengthen public understanding of the Agency’s programs and support effective food assistance coordination.
He also linked his new assignment to the objectives of the Government of Liberia’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, saying he is prepared to contribute to efforts to build a stronger, more food-secure, and inclusive Liberia. Jabateh thanked Minister of State Samuel A. Stevquoah and Minister of State Without Portfolio Hadja Mamaka Bility for their support, encouragement, and confidence. He also acknowledged the efforts of Hon. Jeremiah Piah, whom he credited for his “tireless efforts and commitment” toward making the opportunity possible.
Jabateh also thanked Hon. Dillon for his support and contribution. As he assumes the new responsibility, Jabateh said he remains conscious that the work begins immediately, pledging to serve with humility, accessibility, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to results.
“Leadership is not measured by the position we occupy but by the impact we make and the people we serve,” he said. “I am ready to serve. I am ready to work. I am ready to contribute my part to building a stronger, more food-secure, and inclusive Liberia,” Jabateh added.
