Paynesville-Grand Cape Mount County has suffered a major setback after four of their key kickball players reportedly left team camp and are now seeking to represent other counties in the upcoming National County Sports Meet.
Team officials say the players were last seen after the squad’s victory over Sinoe County on Sunday. Since then, they have vanished without notice and remain unreachable.
The players — Olivia Potter, Marthaline Flomo, Junettor Karkeh and Vennesa Sannah — are reportedly pursuing opportunities to play elsewhere in the December tournament.
Unconfirmed reports suggest Potter is heading to Nimba County, while Flomo may suit up for Grand Bassa. Karkeh is believed to be in talks with Sinoe County, and Sannah is reportedly bound for Margibi County.
It is unclear whether any formal agreements were made. Grand Cape Mount County Sports Steering Committee Chairman Emmanuel Tamba said the players have not answered calls from team officials, describing their sudden departure as “troubling and unexpected.”
As of now, there are no replacements for the departed players, posing a serious challenge for Coach Alphanso Kikeh and his squad.
With less than 14 days before the opening of the 2025–26 National County Sports Meet, several counties are already losing key players, raising concerns about team stability and readiness ahead of Liberia’s most anticipated annual sports festival.
Grand Cape Mount is in Group C along with host Grand Bassa County, defending champion Lofa County and Grand Gedeh County. Matches in this zone will be played at Doris Williams Stadium in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.
The tournament, held under the theme “Inclusive Development Through Sports,” is scheduled to begin Dec. 13 with the zonal stage and official opening ceremony in Harper City, Maryland County.
