MONROVIA — Liberian champions FC Fassell have bolstered their squad with five foreign signings ahead of their debut in the 2025–26 CAF Champions League, investing $65,000 to reinforce key positions before the continental campaign kicks off in September.
The new recruits include Moroccan right back Ayoub Elkaouye, Senegalese duo Ndene Cisse and Abdoulaye Sy, Gambian winger Louis Jatta, and Ivorian midfielder Ibrahim Coulibaly.
The draw for the CAF Champions League preliminary round is scheduled for later in August, with first- and second-leg matches set to begin next month.
Standout Signing: Cisse
Among the signings, 23-year-old striker Ndene Cisse arrives from Benin’s Loto Popo on a three-year contract. Cisse earned widespread attention in 2024 after finishing as the top scorer and MVP of the second edition of the “Soccer for Peace” tournament in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, netting four goals—including a hat trick against Mighty Barrolle on Sept. 13.
Cisse has also featured for Senegal’s U-17, U-20, and senior national teams, including appearances in the African Nations Championship qualifiers.
Other Additions and Coaching Change
Elkaouye, 26, joins on a two-year deal and reunites with Moroccan compatriot Mustapha Zarzif, a defensive midfielder, at Fassell. The pair previously played together at Beni Mellal during the 2020–21 season in Morocco.
Fassell has also appointed Amir Alagic as head coach. The Australian-Bosnian tactician holds a UEFA Pro License and brings a wealth of experience from stints in Europe, Asia, and Oceania. He replaces Belgian coach Ivan Minnaert, who led Fassell to their league title before departing for Vipers SC in Uganda earlier this month.
The squad revamp and managerial shift signal Fassell’s ambitions to make a strong impression in their first-ever CAF Champions League appearance.
