GLASGOW, Scotland — Liberian midfielder Sampson Dweh and his Viktoria Plzen side will take on Scottish giants Rangers in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League, with the first leg set for Aug. 5 at Ibrox Stadium.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. local time in Glasgow. The return leg will be played on Aug. 12 at the Doosan Arena in Czechia, beginning at 6 p.m. UK time.
Plzen booked their place after a dramatic comeback against Servette on Wednesday, overturning a 1–0 first-leg deficit with a 3–1 victory in Switzerland. Dweh played a pivotal role, registering an assist in the 28th minute to level the score following Servette’s early opener.
Rangers advanced by defeating Panathinaikos 3–1 on aggregate.
The winner of the Plzen-Rangers tie will move one step closer to the Champions League group stage. The loser will drop into the newly structured UEFA Europa League group stage, ensuring continued European football through the end of the year.
Fixture Relief for Plzen
In preparation for the high-stakes tie, Plzen successfully petitioned Czech football authorities to postpone their domestic fixture against Mlada Boleslav. Head coach Miroslav Koubek cited concerns over limited recovery and preparation time for the away leg in Scotland.
Plzen is scheduled to depart for Glasgow on Tuesday.
