MONROVIA — Fresh from the excitement of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, European club football is roaring back into action, with Paris Saint-Germain, Aston Villa, Arsenal and Manchester City headlining a packed return as SuperSport brings the opening weeks of the 2026/27 season live to DStv and GOtv viewers in Liberia.
From the UEFA Super Cup and FA Community Shield to the opening rounds of the Premier League, La Liga and Serie A, football fans are set for weeks of back-to-back action featuring some of Europe’s biggest clubs and stars.
The action begins Wednesday, Aug. 12, with UEFA Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain facing Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup at 7 p.m. GMT.
PSG enter the showdown looking to extend their continental dominance after securing back-to-back Champions League titles. Aston Villa, meanwhile, will attempt to upset the French powerhouse and add another chapter to their impressive rise in European football.
Attention then turns to Cardiff on Sunday, Aug. 16, where Premier League champions Arsenal face FA Cup winners Manchester City in the FA Community Shield.
The heavyweight encounter provides an early test for both sides before the domestic campaign begins. For City, it marks the start of a new era under Enzo Maresca, while Arsenal will be determined to demonstrate why they remain the team to beat in England.
Spain’s La Liga also returns Aug. 15, with Alaves hosting Getafe before Sevilla take on Rayo Vallecano later that evening.
With Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid granted additional rest following Spain’s World Cup triumph, other clubs will have an early opportunity to establish momentum before the traditional heavyweights enter the campaign.
The Premier League kicks off Friday, Aug. 21, when defending champions Arsenal welcome promoted Coventry.
The opening weekend also features Hull against Manchester United, Manchester City against Bournemouth and Newcastle against Liverpool, while Chelsea travel to Fulham for a London derby Monday, Aug. 24.
Italy joins the football feast Aug. 22 as Serie A gets underway. Defending champions Inter Milan open against Monza, while Napoli visit Genoa.
Juventus begin their campaign away to Frosinone the following day, with AC Milan visiting Torino. Roma and Fiorentina complete the opening round Monday, Aug. 24.
