BONG COUNTY – Totota Police Commander Moufee Jabateh, who sustained severe burn injuries in a tanker explosion on December 26, 2023, says he is recovering well and remains committed to serving in the Liberia National Police (LNP).
Commander Jabateh suffered burns on his hands, face, and other parts of his body while trying to prevent a crowd from siphoning fuel from an overturned tanker in Totota. The tanker exploded during the incident, leaving him with life-threatening injuries.
In response to his condition, the Liberia National Police, with support from the national government, facilitated his medical treatment in India. He traveled for surgery in July 2024.
Speaking to journalists at his Gbarnga residence over the weekend, Jabateh disclosed that he returned to Liberia on November 17, 2024, following a successful plastic surgery. However, doctors advised him to limit conversations and strenuous activities for a specified period to monitor his recovery and report any complications.
Expressing gratitude for his improved health, Jabateh extended appreciation to President Joseph Boakai, the LNP, Bong County authorities, and all those who contributed to his treatment and recovery.
“I can say I’m the biggest beneficiary of this government. The President helped me a lot, and I want to thank the LNP and Bong County leadership for ensuring my well-being,” he said.
He accused the previous Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) administration of neglecting his medical needs, despite the incident occurring under their tenure.
Despite suffering severe burns on his hands and legs, Jabateh assured that he has regained significant functionality and is ready to resume duty.
“I’m capable and fit. That’s why the government sponsored my surgery—so I must give back,” he said.
