MONROVIA — President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. has appointed new officials to several major public institutions, including the Monrovia Consolidated School System, as his administration moves to tighten oversight and strengthen service delivery across government.
In an Executive Mansion release dated Jan. 9, 2026, the president named Dr. Augurie E. Stevens as superintendent of the Monrovia Consolidated School System. Stevens replaces James A. S. Momoh, who was dismissed following allegations of widespread corruption and administrative malpractice that rocked the country’s largest public school system and prompted calls for sweeping reforms.
The presidency said Stevens’ appointment is intended to restore credibility, accountability and stability at MCSS after months of controversy and internal turmoil. Education stakeholders have repeatedly stressed the need for firm leadership at the institution, which serves tens of thousands of students in Montserrado County.
As part of the same round of appointments, President Boakai named Albert N. Forh as chairman of the Board of Directors of the Liberia Electricity Corporation, with Ambassador Christian Neufville appointed as a board member. The administration said the appointments are aimed at improving governance and performance at the state-owned power utility amid ongoing challenges in electricity access and reliability.
The president also appointed David Nya Dolo as commissioner at the Independent National Commission on Human Rights, where he will have statutory responsibility for education, training and information. In addition, Ignatius Saymel Neepaaye was designated as liaison officer to support the establishment of the proposed National Rail Authority, a key component of the government’s long-term infrastructure and economic diversification plans.
President Boakai expressed confidence that the appointees would serve with integrity and professionalism, stressing that accountability and measurable results remain central to his governance agenda. He urged the new officials to apply their experience in advancing the national interest and improving public service delivery for Liberians.
