KPOR TOWN, Margibi County – Four outstanding students of Kpor Town Public School have been honored with Academic Excellence Awards for exceptional academic performance, in an initiative funded by the personal donation of African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security (PAPS), Ambassador Bankole Adeoye.
The awards, presented during a ceremony on Friday, June 26, 2026, were facilitated by Messengers of Peace-Liberia Inc. (MOP-Liberia), led by Gwendolyn S. Myers, a Global Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) Pioneer and member of the African Union Advisory Panel on Democratic Elections and Governance.
The recognition celebrated the achievements of students from both the elementary and junior high divisions, underscoring the African Union’s commitment to promoting education and youth development in Liberia.
The recipients included Agnes Larty of the eighth grade, who earned 93% in Civics and 90% in General Science; Rena Blamo of the fifth grade, who scored 86% in General Science; Harris Karyeah of the sixth grade, who attained 95% in General Science; and Biatrice Sieh of the sixth grade, who recorded 88% in Health Science.
Delivering opening remarks, Myers said the awardees emerged through a comprehensive academic assessment jointly conducted by the school’s administration, subject teachers, and MOP-Liberia. She noted that the students distinguished themselves as the highest performers in Civics, Social Studies, General Science and Health Science.
The awards follow the commissioning of the fully renovated Kpor Town Public School in December 2025, the first Right to Development Quick Impact Project implemented by the African Union in Liberia under its Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development (PCRD) Policy in partnership with MOP-Liberia.
According to the organization, the awards initiative represents a continuation of its mission to encourage young people’s active and meaningful participation in peace, security and national development through education.
School Principal Melvin Lackay expressed gratitude to Ambassador Adeoye for his personal generosity and praised MOP-Liberia for coordinating the initiative.
“The support will significantly ease the financial burden on the families of these deserving students while motivating them to continue striving for academic excellence,” Lackay said.
Parents of the award recipients also welcomed the recognition, describing it as timely and encouraging. They said the awards would motivate their children to remain committed to their studies while pursuing their future ambitions with greater determination.
In a message delivered through the organizers, Ambassador Adeoye said the initiative is intended to inspire academic excellence among young people and encourage greater participation in Africa’s governance and sustainable development agenda.
According to the message, the recognition aligns with Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want, the African Union’s long-term blueprint for building an integrated, peaceful and prosperous Africa driven by its citizens.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of awards and words of encouragement to the students, reinforcing the importance of discipline, hard work and academic excellence as essential pillars for Liberia’s and Africa’s future development.
