CSA Official Sponsors Breast Cancer Screening for 26 Female Employees

Published: October 30, 2026

MONROVIA — Civil Service Agency (CSA) Director of Occupational Safety and Health Cherie Watkins has sponsored breast cancer screening for 26 female employees of the agency, an initiative aimed at promoting early detection, raising awareness and improving access to preventive healthcare among women.

The screenings, conducted at Jahmale Medical Solution in Liberia, targeted female employees aged 40 and above, as well as younger women considered at increased risk of developing breast cancer.

Watkins said the initiative reflects her commitment to promoting women’s health and workplace wellness, particularly as concerns grow over the impact of breast cancer on women and families across Liberia.

According to the CSA official, early detection remains one of the most important measures in improving treatment outcomes and reducing deaths associated with the disease.

She emphasized that regular screening and greater awareness could help women identify potential health concerns before they become more serious.

Watkins expressed concern over reports of young Liberian women losing their lives to breast cancer, describing the situation as a reminder of the need to strengthen public education and encourage timely medical examinations.

She noted that although routine breast cancer screening is commonly associated with women aged 40 and above, younger women with a family history of the disease or other risk factors should also seek appropriate medical guidance.

The CSA director encouraged women to become more attentive to changes in their health, understand their individual risk factors and consult qualified healthcare professionals when necessary.

She stressed that a family history of breast cancer should prompt women to discuss their screening needs with medical practitioners rather than wait until they reach the age commonly recommended for routine screening.

By personally covering the screening costs for the 26 employees, Watkins sought to reduce financial barriers that could discourage women from accessing preventive healthcare services.

The initiative also aims to encourage greater participation in workplace health programs and inspire other individuals and institutions to support breast cancer awareness and screening.

Watkins maintained that promoting employee wellness should extend beyond responding to illness and include preventive measures that help workers identify and manage potential health risks.

She emphasized that early diagnosis can improve the prospects of successful treatment, particularly when women receive timely medical attention and appropriate follow-up care.

The sponsorship comes amid continuing efforts to raise awareness about breast cancer and encourage women to seek professional medical advice on screening, symptoms and risk factors.

Watkins expressed hope that the initiative would motivate more women to prioritize their health and take advantage of available medical services.

The CSA official also encouraged broader community support for preventive healthcare, stressing that awareness, timely screening and access to appropriate treatment remain essential to reducing the impact of breast cancer on women and families.
