MONROVIA — Zambia Women’s National Team First Assistant Coach, Florence Mwila, is one of four foreign coaches participating in the ongoing CAF License A coaching course in Liberia.
The other participants include Gambian Tapha Manneh, current manager of Liberian First League club Bea Mountain; Ebrima Jatta, Head Coach of Gambia’s most decorated club, Real de Banjul; and Yahya Manneh, Head Coach of the Gambia U-17 Men’s National Team.
In November 2024, Florence Mwila made history by becoming the first female Zambian coach to win an international trophy after guiding the Copper Queens to victory in the 2024 COSAFA Women’s Championship. The team secured the title through a penalty shootout triumph over South Africa’s Banyana Banyana. Mwila stepped in to lead the team after Head Coach Bruce Mwape was excused from the tournament. Now aiming for a more prominent role, Mwila will earn the CAF A License—Africa’s highest coaching qualification—if she successfully passes the course in 2025.
Yahya Manneh, another notable participant, recently led the Gambian U-17 team to the semifinals of the WAFU U-17 Championship. Before this role, he served as Assistant Coach of the Gambia U-20 team, where he contributed to a third-place finish at the WAFU-A U-20 tournament in Liberia a few months ago.
In addition to the foreign coaches, 13 Liberian coaches are also taking part in this elite course, which is being conducted by the Liberia Football Association (LFA) for the first time since 2014. Liberia is among the few CAF member associations granted permission to host the course after meeting all necessary requirements—a clear testament to the country’s commitment to developing top-tier football coaches.
The CAF License A coaching course is one of the most prestigious qualifications in African football. It equips participants with advanced tactical, technical, and leadership knowledge essential for leading teams at the highest levels of the game.
